Eid is coming!

By Aneesah, 20 Oct 06

Edit: I finished the Eid card. :)

Gosh, I’ve really been abandoning this blog. The thought, “maybe I should just delete this whole dang site” always emerges whenever I’m busy with school and/or am too lazy to work on website stuff (like re-writing my content pages, re-collecting my blogroll links, actually blogging regularly, actually visiting my blogroll links and returning comments, etc.) but I know that if I do that, I’ll regret it one day. One day when I wish I had somewhere to rant and complain and share pictures and talk about what I’ve been doing.

It’s unfortunate that my host has been through so many problems and this site has had to be rebuilt so many times… Wouldn’t it be nice if I actually had my blog entries from … 2004 (was it? I don’t even remember :| ), all in one place and archived neatly and still viewable. But things happen and there’s nothing I could’ve done. I’ve thought of moving to wordpress.com but the freedom of making my own themes doesn’t exist there. Everything’s more … restricted. And I’ve always been a loyal person and Nile‘s a great host to have, so pixelled.com is my home, even though I sometimes don’t update for a long, long time.

I don’t really have anything to say, though. It’s the Eid (a.k.a. Hari Raya) and Deepavali (a.k.a. Diwali) holidays, but after 10 days I’ll be back at college for my final exams for two weeks, and then it’ll be my end-of-semester holidays, all through November and December. :D

See? I really don’t know what to say. Hmph. We’ll be spending Eid in Johor in our village; probably nothing much and nothing new. I don’t have any photos to show you yet, so maybe after Eid I’ll have some stuff. I’m trying to make an Eid e-card or something, but I have no idea what to draw. Mosques and ketupats (rice cooked inside woven coconut leaves, something that has always represented Eid) are way too common on Raya greeting cards. :/ Draw me? Don’t wanna. Draw kids in their new clothes? Ehhh.

Okay now I’ve just remembered that I still have that video blog to edit. -_-; It’s supposed to show my room at the hostel and stuff but now the semester is already ending and I’m just too lazy and … I might just scrap it. God, I should get rid of this attitude. I don’t really have much to do but I don’t feel like doing anything at all. Don’t wanna start studying yet ’cause it’s only the first day of the holidays and … erggghh.

Oh well. Maybe something will cheer me up. I need to go shopping tomorrow for new shoes, my sandals (that I’ve only bought in July this year) are falling apart and I don’t have any other shoes at home and to wear for Eid… As for clothes, thankfully I got a few — last week went we went to KL (Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and the like). There was one baju kurung I got that costed RM20, could you believe that? :o 20 ringgit is like US$5.44! Usually off-the-shelf baju kurungs are at least RM100, and more than that if custom-made. (‘Cause you need to buy the fabric itself and plus tailor fees to that.) It was definitely different than the typical shiny, patterned baju kurungs and the cutting was slightly wrong ’cause the top is straight from top to bottom instead of flaring out, and the size wasn’t my size (which is XS or SS, if you have to know) so I had to alter the length of the sleeves, but still… 20 ringgit. O_o

I’ll show you pictures later, when I actually get to wear the clothes. ^^;

CartoonifiedDrawing of me and a friendHaven’t done anything artsy at all except for this one vector-like tracing. I’ve been doing a lot of PowerPoint presentations and Microsoft Publisher brochures for school projects. I think I’m sick of using PowerPoint now. You know how I have the tendency to get really really picky on things like webdesign and just general design, so I’ll spend as much time I can just tweaking this and changing that until I’m satisfied. (Or until I get tired.)

Okay, the part of my brain that tells me what to write seems to be taking a break. When I’m feeling less like a sloth I’ll try and work on the site, okay? In the spirit of Eid (which, tentatively, is on the 24th), I apologise for anything I might’ve said or done, I hope everybody’s doing great and Eid Mubarak / Selamat Hari Raya! ^_^

Happy Eid!So I ended up drawing ketupats anyway. :P

    Assalamualaikum Aneesah!
Eid Mubarak.. hehe.. selamat hari raye!

Baju kurung, at RM 20? Woa.. that’s cheap!.. nowadays, kain je pon dah lebei dari tuh.

eh, dun even think bout closing this site down.. hehe.. it’ll be such a waste, of your talents.. heh.

  2. Theresa says:

    Happy Eid there!! :) Just pardon me as that I’m not familiar with the occasion. ^^;
Don’t shut this site. If I were you I wouldn’t even be thinking of it! Unless you had it with design… which I doubt.

  3. Aneesah says:

Heehee, no problem. I usually spend some time to write about our celebrations and stuff but since I’ve done that last year I’m not bothering anymore. ^^; There’s always Wikipedia, though. :D
I haven’t “had it with design”, I just somewhat “had it with not having time to blog” and “had it with having to rebuild this site again and again”. Being busy and tired is annoying.

  4. Rebecca says:

Happy Eid, even though I’m not very familiar with it.

I think the thought of closing down crosses every webowners mind from time to time, but I’ve tried closing down (I’ve done it twice) and while it feels nice for awhile, you begin longing for it again.

Have fun shopping. Hopefully you’ll be able to get some awesome stuff. :)

  5. Chau says:

Yeah, I know what you mean about your old blog entries! Yeah, I still have mine’s from 2004… Most of them… LOL. I can always host you… But I know how you love Nile, though…

But anyways… Ooh, shopping… I need to do that sometime soon also! Hehe.

  6. Safiya says:

    Asalaamu Alaikum,

Eid Mubarak, hope your Ramadan went well insha’Allah.

  7. Sanne says:

Nice to see a blog of you again :) It doesn’t matter that you do not blog that often, everyone understand that there’s more than an Internet-life :) Oh I hate Powerpoint too. Especially after making several projects with it in a short time period. After a while it starts to drive me crazy.

  8. Brenda says:

Hey, you’re not alone. Haha. I’ve been abandoning my site occasionally for the past few days due to the lack of time, and somehow I am always feeling guilty about it. :(
Anyway, all the best with what you are doing! And Selamat Hari Raya to you!

  9. aileen says:

:boogie: yeah! The holidays and school off-days are the best part of school! :yay: Enjoy the holidays Aneesah!

  10. Lain says:

Ahh, I know I’m late. But still, Selamat Hari Raya! :D
I love the Eid card you did, very sweet! :) I always love how ribbon kedaputs, but I don’t know how to make them!
Anyway, best of luck for you exams. I can’t wait to see great you look in your new baju kurung! :)

  11. Jem says:

Back in the day when I had less readers I always contemplated removing my blog when I was going through a boredom ‘stage’ and ended up not doing because I thought I’d regret it – how right was I? Nowadays my reader numbers are WAYYY higher than they were back then and I love my blog – I couldn’t even think about deleting it! :X
If I were you I’d just make regular backups of your WordPress database then if you do have more downtime you can re-upload everything when things are sorted so you don’t lose anything :) If you don’t have access to PHPMyAdmin to export the database, I am sure there are backup plugins.. or you could even get your host to do it.

I learnt something new today – I’d never heard of Eid/Eid ul-Fitr before..

  12. Aneesah says:

Yeah, I can’t imagine myself having nowhere to turn to when I just NEED to tell somebody (or, you know, someplace) something, or complain about something in great detail and have some feedback from people all over the world. Great things; blogs are.

I do have backups of my WP database (I try and remember to have them, and yes there are plugins) but the problem is I can never get to restore them properly! -_-; I don’t have direct access to the database (there is another plugin that’s supposed to be able to restore backups as well as create them, but I’ve never gotten the restore part to work for me :shake: ), and my host can’t seem to get the backup working with our database either. I don’t know where the problem lies, exactly. :/
Haha, glad you’ve heard of Eid now. :D It’s the Islamic equivalent of Christmas, basically. ^_^

  13. Ahmed says:

Just came accross your bog and thought I;d say Salams.

  14. Leah says:

NO! dont delete your blog. You will regret. My parents told me to delete my site so i did and I missed it so much that I finnaly just this last week restarted mine back up.BUt I just wanted to day I love your site, and I added you to my loved sites list. lol yeah I amde it up of the top of my head.
